Haferl Original shoes
Original Haferl Shoes are solid, classic and of the highest quality. In the year 1803 the Oberstdorf shoe maker Franz Schratt developed Haferlschuh in the beautiful Alps in the Allgäu. English townspeople from upscale social circles discovered the Haferlschuh at that time during their holiday in the Alps and made them a part of their holiday wardrobe. Englishmen who were otherwise used to only wear semi high boots interpreted the unusual shoe type as a "halben Schuh" in English "half shoe" and thus the name "Ha(l)ferl" was coined from alpine German and so the Haferlschuh got his name. The narrow sole offers a good grip similar to the chamois in the mountains. According to outlined designs, the Original Haferl shoes are handcrafted in selected shoe factories in Hungary.
The Original Haferl- From England to the Alps
Englishmen who were otherwise only used to boots at ankle height interpreted the shoe type untypical for them as "half shoe" in English "half shoe" and thus composed of Alpine German a "Ha(l)ferl" and so the Haferlschuh received its name. The narrow, subdued sole offers a similar surefootedness as the chamois has in the mountains. According to sketched designs, the original Haferl shoes are made by hand in selected shoe factories in Hungary. About 200 steps are necessary to turn a finely selected piece of full-grain leather into a goat-sewn Original Haferl shoe. Only the double stitching remains visible, as the frame is placed inside when the shoe is stitched and thus the leather outsole is connected to the frame at the same time. The sewn shoe optimally adapts to the foot as well as the course of movement, however, you should grant the shoe a breaking-in period, because he will reward you afterwards with the highest wearing comfort.
About 200 steps are necessary until a very selected piece of full-grain leather becomes a double-stitched Original Haferl shoe. Only the double seam remains visible, as the frame is placed inward during grooving - and thus at the same time the leather outsole is connected to the frame. The sewn shoe optimally adapts to the foot and the movement, but you should give the shoe an some time to wear it in, because it will then reward you with the highest wearing comfort. All shoe models can be easily resoled. Whether for a festive occasion, at the Munich Oktoberfest or in simple everyday situations, the Original Haferl shoe is a real gem.
